Bialetti

Moka Express was invented in 1933 by Alfonso Bialetti. It was made of aluminium and was quite similar in shape and design to normal coffee services popular at that time at homes. Bialetti put together modern technology with the Italian tradition and the resulting machine was not only elegant but also a good example of craftsmanship. The Moka machine was simple and compact but able to make coffee similar to espresso made by an espresso machine in a bar. Bialetti’s idea was that without requiring any skill people could enjoy an espresso at home just like the one in a bar.

Today the moka pot is well-know and commonly used all around Europe. It became an icon for its design, displayed in modern art museums. Moka machines are all the same but come in different sizes, from one to eighteen 50 ml cups.

Mokarabia

The history of the Zanetti family is a part of the ancient and noble Venetian tradition of trade. As far back as 1700 the Zanettis travelled frequently to the Indies and the Orient to trade in spice and coffee, a delicious drink introduced into Europe by the Venetians from the sixteenth century onwards.

Mokarabia has its roots in this centuries-old experience of selecting and importing the best types of coffee on the world market and, by virtue of this ancient coffee culture that had developed over the centuries, the Zanetti family decided to stake everything on the quality of the product: Mokarabia in fact takes pride in a particularly meticulous process of selecting and purchasing raw materials in order to offer those who opt for Mokarabia the opportunity to savour the highest quality coffee blends and the most intense aromas and flavours.

Zanetti stands for product quality backed by a solid tradition and culture, also confirmed by the name Mokarabia in which much of coffee’s history is encapsulated. Mocha was in fact the most important port in what is now Yemen, then Arabia Felix, where, according to a fascinating mesh of history and legend, the coffee plant that had always grown wild in Ethiopia was first cultivated as a crop.

Introduced into the Arabian Peninsula in the early decades of the fourteenth century, it spread to the rest of the world thanks to the Arabs. Moka, with a "k", then became the name of one of the best types of coffee cultivated in Arabia. It is not by accident that "moka" is also the name of the most common type of coffee machine in Italian households.

The coffee-roasting company Mokarabia was established in Milan in 1950 with the aim of creating high-quality coffee blends to be launched onto the coffee bar market. In just a few years the brand expanded throughout Italy, and in the Seventies it was taken over by Mario Zanetti.

Molinari

The business roots of the Molinari family go back to the beginning of 19th century, when in 1804 the firm of "Giuseppe Molinari", active in the food sector, was founded. The company developed successfully and changed its name to "Ditta Fratelli Molinari" becoming suppliers to the House of Savoy in 1880.

Molinari balsamic vinegar acquired prestige by winning numerous international prizes. But the family wanted to put down its roots in the area and become a reference and meeting point for the inhabitants of the city.

Just as the old coffee houses, set up in Italy during the 19th century, such as the "Pedrocchi of Padua, the "Florian" of Venice and the "Caffé Greco" in Rome, became famous as meeting places for intellectuals and artists of the era as well as for political and patriotic ferment, also in Modena, a lively city in the Po Valley, the family set up the Bar Molinari in the Via Emilia in the heart of the city in 1911. It is interesting to note that Bar Molinari became known and passed into history with the more modern title of "bar", abandoning the old 18th century title of "Café".

The success of the bar encouraged the family to set up a coffee roasting activity.

The nucleus of the original company was the founder, Giuseppe and his sons, Alberto and Emilio who started up in 1944 buying plant and machinery for coffee. The company was situated in the historic centre of town in Via Rismondo 38. In 1955, production increased and the company transferred to Via Modonella, still in the centre of town, where Alberto and Emilio ran the business.

The company grew and transferred to the present offices in Via Fanti 206, near the railway, a little outside the centre where the coffee smells annoyed the local citizens. In the new offices with its greater space it was possible to meet the ever-greater needs of a modern company: there are ample warehouses, laboratories and offices. During this phase of development, the company changed its structure. With the name "Caffé Molinari SpA" the far-seeing project of investing in research and new technology of packaging was initiated, looking for excellence in quality.

New horizons were opened enabling Caffé Molinari to be appreciated in Italy and abroad, in all the continents of the world.
